Kobe Bryant Aiming for 80 Points a Game

So I just finished watching the Spurs/Bucks game, and the only thing on is Mavs/Lakers. Between the two, I hadn’t been that entertained watching an NBA double-header like that in awhile, and one of them was a blowout. Occasionally, a player like Tony Delk or Cliff Robinson will score 50. But it takes supreme all-star status to reach the 60’s. Not only did Kobe Bryant score 62 last night versus Dallas, he did it playing only 3 quarters. He could’ve gotten more and should’ve gotten more. But lame-ass sportsmanship got in the way of greatness.

First off, it must be noted that Dallas displayed perhaps the worst defense I’ve ever seen. How many points does one man have to score before you double-team? Yet the Mavs were just fine with single-coverage on Kobe. At one point, when Kobe was in the low-50’s, he was able to get a wide-open 3 during a fast break. I mean Dallas practically ran out of towels to throw with this defense.

The NBA record is 100 points by Wilt Chamberlain, which will forever be out of reach for every basketball player. The main reason is that the games in which these performances occur in are normally blowouts. So when guys get anywhere close to scoring nirvana, they’re almost always forced to sit out the 4th.
Sportsmanship. We’ve all been critical of the high number of shots Kobe takes. But if I’m not mistaken, you play to win the game, and they did win by 22. Who cares if he had 0 assists if his team wins. We watch sports games for entertainment like that, not to be engulfed with mercy. Besides, the Mavs were asking for it. Dallas got so caught up in watching, that their final shot of the 3rd quarter was like throwing a crumbled piece of paper into a wastebasket- they knew they were wasting their time.

The stop-rubbing-it-in-our-faces complaints began in college, where teams like Duke basketball or USC football will frequently beat teams by 60. But this is the pros, these guys are making millions of dollars! They should be able to put up with 40-pt losses. And when you look at those old games where Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor and David Robinson scored between 70-100, we notice that they all played into the 4th quarter and their games where blowouts. Kobe should’ve gotten the same privilege.

One player isn’t above the team, and that goes for everyone. However, there are games where teams should let the guy with the hot-hand continue. It was a ton of fun watching him steamroll through Dallas. Had Kobe played, he could’ve honestly scored about 90 points (the D was that weak). No one has finished the game in the 80 or 90-point total area. Bryant only needed 14 more for 2nd most points scored ever in a game. It’s a shame he didn’t get the chance.

LeBron James Debate Must End James is the Best Basketball Player on the Planet!

Sports fans love to debate. This is part of the excitement of sports, arguing about what players are best at their respective game or position. One that has become surprisingly popular pits second-year star LeBron James against various other greats, such as Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, and others. It’s surprising not only because LeBron is so young, so most people would exclude him but also because it really shouldn’t be an argument at all.

That’s right. This one is a no-brainer. Stop all the arguments, the debates and the loosely-constructed ideas that other players in the National Basketball Association are better than LeBron James. I’m here to tell you today that there is no reasonable debate — LeBron James is without a doubt the best basketball player on the planet Earth!

Okay, before you blow your stack about his age, lack of experience and the fact that he has yet to win a title, like Kobe and others, let’s consider the best barometer of a great basketball player.

Truly great players possess all of the fundamental skills: shooting, passing, ball handling, rebounding, shot blocking and defending. Now, players like Kobe, McGrady and Kevin Garnett certainly have these skills. But to truly separate players, we need to go beyond these skills. Consider two more factors: the ability to dominate at any position and to make all players around you better. This is the true test of greatness. This is LeBron James.

Larry Bird had it, Magic Johnson had it, and Michael Jordan certainly had it. Does Kobe? I say no. Does McGrady? Definitely not. Garnett may, but he still has too many nights of 14 points and 9 rebounds in a losing effort to say he definitely has it.

Now, consider LeBron James. The skills are unquestionable. He averages 25 points, nearly 8 rebounds and just under 8 assists per game, in only his second year in the league, at the tender age of 20. He’s the youngest to score 40, to get a triple double, to start in an All Star game, and the list grows every night he plays.

Further ponder the fact that at 6-8 and a muscular 240 pounds and with uncanny speed, quickness and leaping ability, LeBron James can handle the ball like a point guard, shoot like most decent (not great, yet) off guards, and post up with the best forwards and centers in the NBA. He blocks shots like a center, can shut down anyone, with his size and quickness, and he gets to the basket and draws fouls better than anyone. He creates a mismatch every night, because he is completely unguardable.

Finally, in just his second year, he’s taken a team that won 17 games prior to his arrival to a 50-win pace. And for the first time since the early 1990s, the Cavaliers are now a legitimate playoff contender. I doubt any coach in the league wants to face the Cavaliers and LeBron James in a seven-game series.

So, when people want to discuss the greatest players in the game, tell them to forget any argument that doesn’t start and end with the name LeBron James.

NBA Why Is Kobe Bryant So Hated

Even though Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player in the NBA he is one of the most hated basketball players in the NBA. He gets booed on the road more than any player I have seen in recent years. Most players that are stars and marketed heavily by the NBA like Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, and Allen Iverson rarely get booed on the road, so why does Kobe? It seems that people see him as a cocky player, which causes them to dislike him. Many supporters of his see it as confidence. As a very hard working player he should be confident.

Others see him as a selfish player. Players like Allen Iverson and Lebron James take just as many shots but their selfishness is overlooked. Another big reason people hate Kobe is because of the rape incident he had back in Colorado. Even if he did not do it people dislike him for cheating on his wife, although many athletes do it. Overall it seems like people dig for reasons to hate Kobe. When he scored 81 points in a game earlier this season people said that a person should not take that many shots in a game. When he only took 3 shots in the second half of a game 7 playoff loss, people said that he did not shoot enough and he was being selfish.

If you take a long look a the situation it all goes back to Jordan. People see Kobe as a Michael Jordan imposter and they hate him because of it. The reason behind the comparisons is Kobe wants to be better than Jordan, he does not want to be like Jordan, and that is what people do not understand. It would be easier for fans to like him and appreciate his game if they analyzed him as an individual rather than comparing him to Jordan.
